Created by Chicago Hip Hop icon Cesar "V!SUAL" Zamudio, #HelloHipHop was established in September of 2011. The Chicago born and raised artist, educator, youth advocate and entrepreneur started his career when the presence of a Hip Hop industry in Chicago was in its early stages. He had few options other than to make it happen himself so he embraced the independent / DIY route that was in front of him and began releasing his music, promoting, marketing, booking, and distributing it all on his own. Throughout his career he took many losses including friendships, money and at times even his own health took a hit. There were points during his career where he was homeless, missing meals and dealing with mental health issues like depression and anxiety that he was not fully aware of.
Having been self taught in many aspects of his music career and personally experiencing the struggle of being an independent artist, his vision was to provide insight and empowerment to other artist while continuing to cultivate and preserve the culture that has been a positive impact throughout his life.
V!sual began to produce events with music curated by DJ friends Illanoiz, Mind, Moz Definite, Shon Roka and B Vax and most recently DJ Skoli who have all been the backbone of these events. Since their first event in 2011 #HelloHipHop has been pivotal in cultivating Hip Hop culture in Chicago and beyond curating events that have featured polished veterans and up & coming talent from Chicago, across the US and even Europe.
In January of 2013 V!sual developed the annual “Protect Your Essence” artist competition which features 16 artist competing for prizes that focus on artist development including career consulting sessions, social media optimization, booking, distribution, professional photos and more. V!SUAL created the competition inspired by his background in battle rap and the the lack of resources and opportunity for up and coming talent. In 2016, another aspect of the vision was developed with the annual “Don’t dream, make plans” artist development summit that has featured industry experts ranging from attorneys, publicist, booking agents, bloggers & more giving industry insight followed by an audience led Q &A session.
Today #HelloHipHop continues to grow, champion artist and make an impact on the Chicago community and beyond.
